Best Things to Do in DFW this Spring

It’s springtime in DFW – the flowers are starting to bloom, the trees are beginning to bud, and the weather is beautiful.

Right now is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and pleasant temperatures before the heat of summer hits the metroplex.

1. Fort Worth Food and Wine Festival

The Fort Worth Food and Wine Festival is actually this weekend (April 5-8, 2018), but if you’re going to be in town it’s definitely worth checking out. This year will be the festival’s fifth year and will feature the area’s most talented chefs, brewers, food artisans, and more. So, if you or someone you love is a foodie, be sure to stop by this weekend.


2. Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum is beautiful any time of year, but it is especially colorful during the springtime. If you’re in the area this weekend, you could still catch the tail end of Dallas Blooms, a special spring festival at the Dallas Arboretum. Otherwise, it would still be worth checking out the flowers another weekend as well over the coming months.


3. Safari Nights at the Dallas Zoo

Dallas and Fort Worth both have excellent zoos, and both are great for family-friendly excursions. However, beginning in May, the Dallas Zoo puts on special safari nights on Saturday evenings, making for a great kid-friendly weekend outing. So, if you have young kids definitely plan on checking out the Safari Nights at the Dallas Zoo.


4. Grapevine Vintage Railroad

If you’ve never taken a trip on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, then now is a great time to do so! Running from Grapevine to the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad is a fun excursion for the whole family. Plus, the railroad often does special events for extra fun, so be sure to check out the schedule before you make plans to visit.


5. Fort Worth Botanic Gardens

Similar to the Dallas Arboretum, the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens are also a sight to behold in the springtime. The gardens are a great place to take the entire family, and there is so much to see. Plus, the botanic gardens often put on special events during the springtime so be sure to check out the schedule online before planning your visit.


6. Hike and Bike Trails Around Lake Grapevine

If you and your family like to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, then you definitely need to check out the hike and bike trails surrounding Lake Grapevine in Grapevine, Texas. From mountain biking trails to paved walking paths there is something for everyone at Lake Grapevine. Plus, there are multiple playgrounds and fun things to do for kids!


7. Scarborough Renaissance Festival

If you’re looking for something a little different to do in DFW this spring, you might be interested in checking out the annual Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, Texas. The festival runs on the weekends from April 7 to May 28 and is quite literally a step back in time to the Medieval era. Definitely worth the visit, especially if you’re into history!


8. Mayfest at Trinity Park, Fort Worth

Mayfest is an annual, four-day, family-friendly festival in Trinity Park, Fort Worth, just along the banks of the Trinity River. The festival features a little something for everyone, including live music, festival foods, carnival rides, performing arts, paddle boats and more. The festival begins on May 3, so if you’re in town that weekend be sure to check it out.
